As with several issues on these new bikes, what happens to one guy might not to another. Some run flawless and others have issues ranging from minor to major. The volume cut out only happened to me once. Was able to reset it by turning the bike off and on again. From that day on I let the system boot up while I put my gear on, get the tour pak organized, etc....30-45 secs in most cases. Then start the bike. Haven't had the volume issue since.

I have had the volume issue with this new Infotainment system from the beginning. On occasion the volume button will not cycle up or down. I have to shut off the bike and restart and then the button will cycle up or down. I have had the latest flash that was to solve these issues with the Infotainment system. Just recently the problem with the volume control came up again. So the flash does not resolve it at all. I think like most have said it is a booting procedure that must take place. Too quick and the system gets confused.

You don't necessarily have to stop to reboot the system. Just shut the system down by holding the power button for 3 seconds, wait a few seconds and then turn it back on. I've done it at a stop light to fix the problem.

I've had this happen too. Now I wait until the Accept screen before starting. But this is a software bug and there should be a f'ing fix for it.

It's completely unacceptable that almost 6 months have passed since the last firmware update.

This did not work for me on any of the times I've had the problem. The only thing that worked for me was to turn the bike off.

"I've now put 250 miles on since his update and no problem.
Come to think of it, I wonder why the tech didn't mention anything to me about radio on & off procedures.

I do know the procedure solved my issues with the radio starting up in some random configuration."

Until this this afternoon, I lost the volume control again and the radio is back to booting up in some random configuration.

WAPS.

Radio boot up is definitely a PITA.

I've now developed the habit of turning the ignition switch to acc position before gearing up. When the legal statement accept screen comes up, I'll hit the accept box so the screen goes to home, then I watch the bottom of the screen status indicators (even after the disclaimer screen shows up & you accept, the radio is not finished booting) until after the BT symbol appears. I then select the NAV hard button & MAP soft button. After the map screen appears, it seems the boot up has completed (your results may vary, depending upon radio options & USB memory size). Then I move the ignition switch to ON, wait for the lights in the instruments to go out & then hit the starter. As long as I go through this full drill, I haven't experienced the weird anomalies that need a shut down/restart to correct.

Yep, a real PITA & it's more than just the infotainment involved; there's additional hand shaking with BCM too, since hand control switches all get routed to BCM which then interprets those inputs & sends the appropriate control signals to the radio. Seems they may be asking the processors in the radio, BCM & ECM to do more work than their clock speeds can handle? As a 1st gen CAN bus I expect it's still a learning curve. Can bus was on '13 Softails & deployment of those models seemed painless (not many issues). '14 touring bikes are making the CAN bus work. Expect future models to have faster processors that will solve most of the issues, but it'll probably be a couple years down the road. Meanwhile, I'm gonna make the best of it & enjoy my '14 Limited.

This happened to me when I was playing with the ring tones. Had to shut the bike off and back on again to get the FM/AM volume to work again.
