Noticed my first rock ding. :(
I was wiping the bike down with detailing spray as I usually do and noticed my first little rock ding right on the brow of the headlight. 2300 miles. DAMN!
It was inevitable, you can hardly see it, but I always hate to find that first one.
My story is my own fault, and pissed me off at myself. The day I bought my new Rush King, I get it home and into the garage after a ride. My kids come out and look it over, and in my excitement, I decided to sit on it one more time before I shut the garage and went into the house. Well, I had unzipped my leather jacket after parking it the first time, and without thinking got back on. Sure enough, there is now a very small nick, barely visible but down to the primer in the tank just in front of the seat on the left side where they zipper nicked it. Sigh, I knew something would happen one day, but the very first day sucked.
Actually my 1990 BMW K75 RT had the worst paint of any vehicle I've ever owned. That stuff literally came off by rubbing on it. Horrible orange peel everywhere. The bike came with a large 1/4" smudge like someone touched the paint while it was still wet right on the side of the gas tank. BMW mothership refused to replace the tank and offered free accessory rubber knee pads for the tank sides. They were the style back then so I took them up on those. With something like that, Harley would get you a new factory painted tank.
Harley replaced my 2014 tour pak lid because there were tiny cracks in the clear coat where someone obviously tightened the tourpak rack on too tight and or soon before the paint cured. Dealer looked at it, ordered a new lid, it was there in a week and they installed it.
In general I'm very happy with the Harley paint. Deep luster. Nice details between the two tone colors. The sparkle and pearls are second to none. It's the damn roads. So much crap being kicked up from all the pot holes and patches.
Anyway it's so minor that only I will see it EVERY TIME I look at the bike, until the next bigger one ...
