RE the night dragons, they don't have the bias ply rear that the 2018FXLR has. The Pirelli is a radial. I want stick over miles. I'm thinking about Shinko 777.

I'm not following you. The FXLR uses a 180/70-16. The Pirelli ND rear is a 180/70-16, bias-ply. I don't see what the problem is? You saying the ND 180/70-16 is radial not bias? I never heard that - I had the ND's, front and rear, same sizes on my LRS and it was amazing.
Edit: I just found B in the rear designates belted. Interesting. Didn't know that. Guess I was using mixed on a lot of bikes for a lot of years.
I looked up your LRS tire sizes and the new FXLR is not the same at all. You had a 17 rear, the new LR has a 16! You may very well have had a bias rear ND.

I dont remember the sizes, but I definitely had the conversation with my dealer that it was ok to mix as you said. Maybe it was on my FXR, I dont know. I can barely remember what I had for breakfast...
Stock 2018 FXLR if ya don't include the K-Drive bags and supports I made up. Looking at slip ons soon and shame Crusher do not make the 2.5" for the M8.
