Glad it finally got there buddy, I was beginning to think it was travelling the Pacific in a canoe! Word of caution, do not ever mock or laugh at the bell. I've heard they could turn on you. Ride safe m'friend!!

I’ve read through the first 10 pages of this thread before skipping to the end. I didn’t see one post on the handling of the new Low Riders. I had a Dyna Low Rider S to which I installed Öhlins fork cartridges and shocks, a superbrace fork brace and Pirelli night dragon tires. The bike handled better then I could push it.

I have a 2019 Fat Boy which I’m not happy with the handling of, and am seriously considering trading it for a new Low Rider to which I’d also install a 114 stage 3 kit. Midnight Blue or Silver. Not sure which yet, but probably blue.

What I’m wondering is how the new softail frame Low Rider handles when pushed. Has anyone taken some nice twisty roads, gotten some good leans over on it? I’m not looking to put it on a track, but I do want to have it handle like I’m used to. Better hopefully.

Any opinions are appreciated.

Thanks.

I can comment on the 2018 Low Rider handling. I have put eight thousand miles mostly back roads with some good twisties on mine so far. The handling is very neutral with a light turn in. The lean angle is good. To get to the edge of the tire on the 2016-1/2 Low Rider S you are out of lean angle and starting to grind stuff according to one owner I talked to. That is not the case with the 2018FXLR, except boots will touch down. Bumps upset things a little but not as much as I was used to from riding Harleys in the past. You can feel the damping at both ends and there is a sport feel to things, for a Harley. I never once thought it needed a fork brace or different fork oil. Tires are on the hard side mine are toast, I can't find alternatives that are exact size replacements within the same brand. So rather than mix brands, I'll probably put a lower profile on the rear and stock size up front.

I appreciate the comments. Re your tires, have you looked at Pirelli Night Dragons? They are fantastic, but don’t last. I think the average is about 6000 miles.

RE the night dragons, they don't have the bias ply rear that the 2018FXLR has. The Pirelli is a radial. I want stick over miles. I'm thinking about Shinko 777.

You sure? It was my understanding that ND’s are all bias ply?

Hey Mchad,
Mate i will throw this out to You,I feel the softail low Rider handles very very well and i'm happy throwing it around twistie bends and dips feels light for a full size bike.
Issue #1 the handleBars they are a little goofy at first. But i love mine
issue #2 the frame Your fat boy is the same platform .Same?....and you will have to turn up the clicker under seat make it Firmer to handle better you will feel the bumps more.
Maybe take a demo bike for a Ride mate so you can compare the 2
I would love to see you on a FXLR, But i love the looks of the Fat Boy.
Good luck

A midnight blue 2019 w/abs (my two requirements) was just delivered to the dealer yesterday. They’ll prep it today and I’m planning on a test ride on Friday am. If it works, I’ll pick it up next week in all likelihood. I’m just scraping up the funds to pay off the Fat Boy in full and will wait until I can walk away clean (no note on the new one).

Then before I take it home it’ll get the stage 3. I don’t want anymore break-in restrictions then I have to...

I’ll see how it goes and let you know.
