I’m gonna sneak out from work at lunch (I hope) to run to the dealer and pick up that manual and other stuff. Good idea on the TBW connector, I’ll get one if they have it in stock.

Thanks and again, great help!

You're welcome

The release is still accessed from the face of the connector like the rest, have a look at the video. It's just a pita. I tend to get ham-fisted and break things, so a gentler touch should be able to do it without mangling things...

Let me know how it goes.

Will do Mchad, thanks. I picked up the electrical diagnostic manual yesterday, the few pages on just the connectors are worth the price of admission.

One last question and I'll leave ya alone for awhile. When you do it do you pull all the cables on a side at once, a little at a time? Or, do you fully pull one cable before starting the next? Thanks!

Definitly pull both at the same time. Once one is in, the other would be a major bitch with that first cable in there introducing additional resistance. Maybe the aforementioned cable lube could help, but why risk it. I made a pull by taking some chain I had laying around and some paracord and made a Y out of it. The chain makes it easy to snake through using gravity, and the paracord does the actual pulling. Have one strand out the bar end for the TBW, and one out the port in the bar for the hand control cable. Wind (winde?) the cord around a few inches of the cable, then tape each up good with electrical tape. I tape up to the leading end so nothing can get caught while pulling, Slather with lube (again, HIGHLY recommended) and pull with one hand and push with the other. I generally stagger the ends by an inch or so depending on how much cable there is.

Thats pretty much how I do it.

And feel free to keep asking, it’s no bother!

Heres what I use to pull:

Cable pulling lube - Check. Spare connector - Check. Chain - Check. TBW wires giving me a fit. Got 2 wires out, black one on top isn’t cooperating. Work 5 minutes, go out and smoke for 10. This is gonna take awhile.

I’m just babbling now, Thanks for all the advice, I’ll let ya know how it goes.

Nice job! I knew I shouldn’t have gotten those apes with 90 degree angles.

*Finally* finished the handlebars. It wasn't too bad except for that PITA TBW connector. To make a long story short, one of the terminals broke so I took the bars to my dealer who put all new terminals on the wires. I was able to remove all the other connectors from the harnesses without a problem. Pulling them internally took about 2 hours (including smoke and cuss breaks) and plenty of cable pulling lube. Here's a couple pic's, they're Todd's Cycle 10" Strip mini-apes. The wiring harness lengths were ok. Clutch and brake line lengths barely work with rerouting so I went ahead and ordered longer cables and will put 'em on next weekend.

Wow, great job, I can't imagine trying to pull wires through those bars.

Looks great. Good job. You’re changing the upper brake line yourself?
