Default Forward Controls

Has any one put the forward controls on your bike? If so, was it hard to do? How long did it take? My local dealer wants to charge me 4.5 hours to do it. Is it really that time consuming?

Thanks

Took me about 45 minutes to an hour to do
4.5 hours seems rather excessive.

Like 708encore said, 4.5 is high. It took me about 2 hours and I am *really* ****.

To me the hardest part was getting the lever that is buried between the primary and motor off the shifter shaft. The instructions don't tell you to take off the shift lever. Take that off and you can slide the shift shaft in a little making the allen head screw a bit more accessable. To get to that allen head screw I went in from the front of the lever and used a 3/8 drive 1/4" allen head socket, put it on a universal joint, then a 6" extension on a long handled ratchet. That sucker was tight. Once that lever was off everything else was pretty easy.

On the right hand side the instructions tell you to hand tighten the bolts that attach the master cylinder bracket to the frame but never tell you to torque them. I got the torque spec out of the service manual.

The new pedal in the kit gives you better leverage and makes the rear brake much more effective.

Ole-Phart thanks for the info. I will definitely try to do this myself. Did you use the Harley forward controls or an aftermarket version?

If you know your way around a toolbox you won't have a problem. Mine are HD, I got them from Surdyke for about $411.

Oh, the instructions say to use an E-Clip tool to get the pegs off and back on the new supports. You could probably use a screwdriver or pliers to pop off the clips but I went ahead and got this one from Amazon for about 15 bucks. E-Clip Tool Worked like a champ.

Nice on that tool! I always used picks or needle nose pliers and always manage to mangle them. That’s why I always bought replacements, expecting to destroy them.

Shop around, my dealer match's other dealer prices. Got mine for 399 plus uncle Sam's take.
