Bike is a 2018 Heritage. Already has a Motherwell Solo Rack on the rear fender. Don't have the bike here yet, but looking to get a head start for when it arrives. Trying to decide between getting the 2-up rack that does not require a sissy bar, or getting the sissy bar and adding the rack that attaches to it. Will not be carrying a passenger at all. Wondering if the 2-up rack combined with the solo rack would enable me to carry enough add'l "stuff" securely, without having to buy the sissy bar, which I know would work out well.
I put the sissy bar and rack combo on mine. Ride solo and put a bib on rear fender. Use a piece of luggage that goes over sissy bar and sits on bib, with straps that go around the saddlebag guards. Still have room for a second bag on the rear rack. Can still open the saddlebags without interference from the sissy bar bag.
Thanks, SS. Is your sissy bar/rack setup a H-D accessory or from another aftermarket maker? I have seen that Motherwell also offers the sissy bar/pad/rack combo for these bikes, but wondering if there are other options out there.
It's the HD bar and rack. Negotiated for it to be included when I bought the 2018 FLHCS. The bags I use are a Viking #1538 Medium sissy bar bag. I don't use the pad, and I mount it on the fender bib with pockets forward. can lean back against it, if needed. I also use an older leather duffel bag on the rack secure with 2 Rok straps for extra clothes, toiletries, whatever. Put a 1/4" plywood on bottom of the duffel so it sits better on the rack. Gives me enough room for a week+ when I include the saddlebags for tools, rain suit, extra shoes, cover for parking at night, etc.
