Keep the fuel capacities in mind. For me, the small tank would be a deal breaker.
This is a good point. After nearly 20,000 miles in the last year and taking it cross country already, I do have to say the small capacity tank on the Fat Bob is a bit of a pain in the ***. I would dearly love for it to have a 5-gallon tank instead, that would be the icing on the cake. The small capacity hasn't stopped me, but I have the bike accessorized and tuned to near perfection and that small capacity is clearly the most annoying aspect left.
I own an 18 114 Fat Boy - as stated it handles interestingly.. Very slow response in corners and likes to stay straight up. That said, I'd buy another one.....
sounds like my VROD. in the end, the fat boy and breakout were too similar to my VRSCF. The fat bob is different enough, and it could work. When it first came out I had an R1200R that would have made the fat bob feel lethargic, but I don't have that anymore and the fat bob would be fun to have if not for one more annoying little thing - the way that it wants to be ridden, the RPMs are constantly above 4K, often hovering around 5K. My concern when I was doing an extended test ride was how well the engine would handle this over time. Got me wishing that they would have put a liquid cooled engine that revs higher in the bob. Oh well, I continue to look and test ride. I like the opinions here, everyone has a different take...for those with the fat bob, is the near-constant high RPM an issue, or am I making it more than it is?
It definitely enjoys higher revs. If you get a Harley"stage" upgrade, that raises the rev limit to 6200, so you have more rev range to work with.
But nothing to be concerned about? I won't go down the sumping route because I don't really understand what that entails, but there was some mention at some point of guys running at high RPM for a long duration. I assume the engine is the same and so subject to similar potential problems??? Or maybe this stage upgrade does something? Or maybe the problem is actually <1% but garners >50% of the conversation?
That stupid headlight has not only won me over it is now an object of desire!
Just wondering if you test rode the Sport Glide? I just put a deal on 19 dealer transfer better than I could on 18 in stock at another dealer in their quick price- wont last long high pressure. Dont get pressured into buying. Make your decisions and tell them what you will pay and then if they say no. Leave. Wait for it....
ring...
They will call you. then you can buy when you are ready.
The gist is the Sport Glide stripped down is a Fat Baby Boy with optional side bags, forward controls, ABS and security standard, cruise control, inverted forks. Tosses around corners with ease. Can drive it like a sport bike if you want and lean body position to reduce need to lean bike as much. Or just sit back and cruise and scrape pegs old style.
to each his own. Just my thought process. Hope it helps. Take what resonates- leave the rest
