Clutch is toast. Unfortunately Harley uses a calculated gear indicator instead of a gear sensor. The computer looks at the speed v rpm and calculates the gear your in, when your clutch slips this messes up the calculation. Its also why you lose the gear indicator when the clutch is in.
What would cause a fried clutch at 200 kms ? Bike has been out 3-4 times total. Been following the break in guidelines no dumping the clutch or beating on it. Even if I was for it to fail at 200 kms?
dealer is trying to shift blame and told them I wasnt paying a dime. I said how would I burn a clutch up in 200 kms ? Does not make sense.

Is your vehicle part of the clutch actuator recall? Dealer should replace the clutch if it failed, no way it was your fault.

They will try try to shift blame.
Just hold your ground 200 km is nothing on the bike. The clutch is good for a stage 2 cam with extended warranty so if it can't make 200 km out the door that is on them. If your dealer gives even a hint of trouble call your Harley rep and call another dealer. We take it up the bum on the price. We don't need to be treated like children when they screw up.
Been through this with all kinds of equipment all brands. Big and small. You did nothing wrong. You need to do nothing to correct this. They need to honor the warranty.
Quick update in case it helps anyone. Went back and forth with the dealer and stood my ground. They sent it to
Harley for an answer. Harley came back with: give us more information .. % of city vs highway riding. Lead up to all of this ? Symptoms .. etc. They responded today that they will cover it. Attached to my questions I included screen shots of numerous complaints from consumer affairs site showing multiple folks with my same issue.
I suggested to the dealer that I should come by at 100km or 200km post change so they can inspect it so I am not
blamed if this is an on going issue.
Not sure what the future holds .. still at a loss for why this would happen. Either someone forgot to fill the fluid properly, soak the plates in oil before installing them ?
Harley asked for the old clutch assembly to analyze why this is happening. Oh ... and parts are a month out :/
Thanks for the update. Harley keeping the parts is standard it keeps the dealer honest and helps them analyze quality. Every new machine will have a small % of failing parts maybe the part maybe the install.
Most of the time it is something we might not even notice.
Parts available is at an all time low for Harley. I just waited 7 weeks for a stage 1 air cleaner.
They really need to improve that.
Just go to the dealer and demo other bikes for a day.
They owe ya that....lol
Keep your faith your new bike will be good.
Best time for a clutch fail is right away.
The questions and responses you're getting from Harley and the dealer are routine, and routine for most other companies as well. Unless you're truly friends with someone in the process, they'll just spit out standard operating procedures and guideline responses to your problems.
There are a thousand things that can go wrong with any machine, even new. Consider yourself lucky that it was a failure you were able to walk away from.
Also, it sounds like you're getting it fixed before prime riding season is here. I wish you the best!
