I have a 2019 flde... purchased DK587. I don't plan on installing a tuner or mufflers right away... want to get a bit further into warranty period... before I do that. However, would like to run only clean air into the motor.
Has anyone run their M8 with higher flow ac without tuner or muffler change? If so any evidence of lean conditions? Since the cats are in mufflers, thought the ecm would adjust OK ...
Well I'm not flashing the bike. And if I need to bring it in for work.. just remove right? Maybe I should just reroute breather hose a breather filter inside the air cover as I have seen some do. A temp thing and just do whole stage 1 when ready
Stage 1 here, '19 FLFBS, in the shop now having it done at the 1K service. The way it was explained to me, HD tuner, different HD back plate and air cleaner, changed exhaust to V&H short shots, and a dyno.
Figured while it was in have the bars/risers swapped out too, wish I'd waited to do the bars but it is what it is.
Power train warranty will be voided with aftermarket tuners and exhaust sytems that are not approved by the dealer. I suggest anyone wanting to go aftermarket make a judgement call, screw the warranty.

Why not just get the SE tuner and add whatever you want when you can? Running a lean or rich fuel mix isnt good for the engine, notwithstanding the warranty. If its already a high flow air cleaner I see little point changing it.

Hate to tell you this but the V&H short shots voided your warranty, according to HD. No approval by a dealership gets you past that. Now you dealer may look the other way but if your out and the bike doesn't go back to your dealer your screwed.

Thanks for the heads up, dont see me having to use another dealer for drivetrain problems. Tampa area has 3 current HD dealers all owned by the same LLC, with a fourth being built up my way. I should be in good hands.
I will keep in mind what you said, sometimes I do make a southwest run, sometimes up the eastern seaboard.

Well if I add other non compliant exhaust, AC... then warranty gone. But yea, reconsidering installing anything that will affect air flow while not adding a tuner.
Supposedly, if I just add the AC and not touch exhaust, the ecm should account for it. Also, I read that DK testing showed that the M8s don't appear to run as lean from factory compared to TC.
I had this same AC and I bought a PV2 with map from Fuel Moto. I also added Big Shots. The PV2 did its job well. Bike was nice tuned by young mechanic at my local HD dealer.

Gotcha. I was thinking it was an HD branded AC, so it would not affect warranty and if you went with a high-flow the ECM may account, but the SE tuner could be used, again, without affecting warranty. Cheers.
