I bought a new 2018 Heritage 114 in May of this year. This is my fourth Harley, and Im pretty well-versed in the brand, but this is my first M8. Since I bought it, Ive put 12k miles on it. Amsoil in all three holes. Bone stock mechanically (thanks, California), save for the K&N knock-off air filter Harley sells. Over the past few thousand miles, Ive noticed some new sounds. It seems to make a light knocking/rattling. This happens after its warm, is not speed dependent (does it at all speeds but most noticeable around town going slow), and comes and goes at random. I cant pinpoint the noise, either, but it sounds low. Ive read that the primary chain can be the culprit and that its normal, but I wanted to see if anyone else is experiencing the same thing and Im just being **** retentive. Ive also noticed the valve train gets louder from time to time, but I believe this is also normal.
The bike still has stock exhaust due to Californias stupid rules. I dont want to spend $1500+ on a new exhaust setup/tuner for just a little more sound. Probably the reason why I notice all of the engine noise.
Love the bike. Its super comfortable and is an excellent commuter for my 100+ mile/day trips.

Next time it makes the rattling now put pressure on your gas cap. I was chasing a different rattle that would come and go until one day I noticed the gas cap rattling and found the issue.
