I posted in the main forum but thought I may get a more relevant answer here since it's a sporty i'm talking about. I know this question has probably come up a bunch of times but please forgive me I am new and have only owned a harley since this year. My engine is kind of loud, by loud I mean it alsmost sounds like a cars engine running with all the belts and obviously at higher rates of speed the noise gets louder. Am I just being retarded or does it sound like something may be wrong. Also when i release the throttle I hear a clicking noise. Thanks for any knowledge and advice and please be gentle
Good luck on gentle. You need thick callous here. HA. Listen with a cloth rag held over both exhaust. Air cooled motors are louder than water jacket car engines. If you are concerned listen to a new one. Lot of it is even with factory exhaust has a tone sound that's a little camey if that's a word. Get you a stethscope at autozone. You will probably be surprised what you hear. Mostly just smooth werr , even the cylinders. If it's not then maybe you do have a problem an expert should hear. You do not state milage but my 04 has 40K and a lot of primary chain runout. Sounds like a rotary tiller but does not appear to hurt anything. Plan on checking inner primary bearing this winter. Don't plan on taking it cross country either however.

Ha! You sound just like me.... I've always had Jap crap till my 09 Nightster this April.
She rattles like a bag of nails, vibrates through the soles of my feet, lurches all over the place if I get the gear remotely wrong, the exhaust grounds out too often, and the paint is peeling off all over the place!!
But I've clocked up almost 2000miles in the last few months and I've never grinned so much in my life!!
I'm used to the noise now, I'll change the exhaust system next year, and respray it as well.....
