Just purchased a 20 Sport Glide in Evil Pumpkin. This is my 9th HD and wanting something different, I chose this. I am used to interchanging parts from other bikes, as I have a building full of them, but am finding the new Softail frame a challenge. I have owned this scoot for less than a week and am looking forward to the possibilities. I am definitely not afraid of DIY fabrication. I come to this forum for info and have 45+ years of experience. I'm liking the challenge.
Appreciate a direction inside the forum. Have already begun the modifications.
Looking forward to seeing what you do with it! Any plans yet? I lack your experience for sure and can’t really speak to the interchangeability issue, but I am noticing that aftermarket parts and accessories are more limited with it being newer. But more come all the time.
Yep, looking forward to the direction you take it.
One thing for sure, fabbin your mods are going to be key. Aftermarket is still playing catch up on these new models.
My plans will include the obvious, intake, exhaust, tuner. Right now, I've done a temporary 3/4" rise to the handlebars, added 10" dark smoke windshield, popped a good size hole in the baffle and drilled out 8-3/8" holes in between the baffle and packing. It now has a little sound. This is day 7 and I've only managed one 20 mile ride, due to bad weather on my days off. I am waiting for the temp to inch over 40, it's going out today. Main thing is getting the Pumpkin ride-able for me. This will be an interesting challenge. Lowering the rear end 2" will be a summer priority. Stay Safe.
Mid 40's with 20-25mph wind gusts. Managed another 35 miles. This bike is like no other I've rode before. About 25lbs lighter than my Heritage, for a 700lb scoot, this thing is nimble as hell, almost Sportsterish. 4th-5th gear has an amazing power gain. Compared to the 103, this puppy is rather quick, even with keeping my rpm's in break-in range. The motor is begging to be unleashed. I am a big fan of apes and slammed rear ends, but after many years, I'm finally willing to admit, looks great, but handle like crap. I prefer a low in the saddle riding position, so the modifications will begin there. I have a set of 99 springer handlebars in my building, which would mean converting to a 1" clamping area. I know some of you have put on the 3 1/2" pullback risers from HD. I my start there. Will be adding some Kuryakn floorboards as soon as funds permit. Splined adapters already on the way. I attempted to adapt a set of mini floorboards, but HD has a funky angle on the driver pegs. This will have to be a budget build, so homemade will definitely come into play. I am partial to Cobra exhaust, well made and a bit cheaper than the other names. Slip-on from them is in the picture. Seats for the 18-20 softails are limited, so this will be an adventurous area. I need to sit lower. I opted for the extended warranty, simply because it lowered the monthly payment. I will be voiding that long before 1000 miles. Only one of my Harley's ever needed the dealer, toasted stator on a brand new 04 Ultra. If I can't fix it myself, then my riding days are over. If I can help anyone looking for advice or know how, please feel free. Stay Safe.

Keep in mind the handlebars on your new bike are for throttle-by-wire.

If you wanna go full-on crazy, you can get a used 2018+ Heritage rear shock somewhere and put it on your Sport Glide. Raises the rear about an inch and improves turn-in and lean angle.
Reply to Oldmike; Thanks for reminding me. TBW means to me, having to deal with 2 less cables outside the h-bar. Not really an issue, but thank you.
Full on crazy to me, would be getting that rear tire to hug the fender, which would contradict my statement above. I can't stop thinking old school and it may prevail.
Handlebars; Not sure it can handle a 3" straight rise, without increasing wiring length, but it should handle 2" without problem. Brake cable may be an issue. The guy's who have done the HD pullback risers had no issues, but straight is taller than pullback. Riser extensions are readily available for $40-$60 and grade 8 bolts up to 5" can be had from your local auto parts store. Making my own, another option. The Ol' Lady was smoked by a logging truck 2 days ago, her 17 Altima is totaled. She is extremely lucky to still be here. Obviously this is my priority. Need to get the dust settled. Out, Iceman.
