I filled gas last Friday and noticed the fuel gauge indicator and fuel range (only 126 mi range with a full tank). I checked the bike and got an ECM code P0463h. Called the dealer and was told it's related to fuel gauge sensor. They will come to pick up the bike this Friday. Looks like no more ride for this year.
I had the fuel sending unit replaced under warranty on my FLSB recently. I just used the trip mileage until I got it changed. I really didn't want to give up the bike, lol. I had them confirm the problem, order the part, and then made an appointment for them to fix. Only had to leave the bike overnight. It's not that bad. Just make it as convenient as possible for yourself.
Mine is a 2018 Fat Bob with the same problem mentioned by the OP. My dealership called me saying there is a recall for this problem and that the speedo needs to be recalibrated. I got it done which just took about 10 minutes and now my fuel guage is working perfectly.
I have a 2018 Fat Bob, and according to Harley's website there are no open recalls, no closed recalls, and no product programs for this bike. I wonder why yours would have a recall and mine wouldn't? Mine was from November 2017.
Maybe I used the wrong word recall. But my dealership called me and told me that there is an issue with the fuel sensor in some of the bikes and Harley has directed that the speedos need to be recalibrated. I had complained about getting erroneous readings in my fuel indicator much earlier. In fact then they changed my fuel float under warranty but the problem persisted. Now after recalibration the issue as of now stands resolved.
