Default Bleeding brakes

Hi all.

I am planning on getting 2 jobs done on my 2018 fatboy before the start of the season, change out the floorboards for a set of Rick's forward controls that I picked up on black Friday and upgrade the front caliper to something that may actually stop the bike.

Now obviously both of these jobs involve digging into the braking system and I will be fitting braided hose at the same time. Last time I did this job on a Harley, it was an evo that had never heard of ABS.

I had a brief look on YouTube last night and got horribly confused about not getting air into the ABS pump.

Is there a simple way of doing this swamp out, or do I have to pay a dealer? That would really hurt 😀 any good guides or how-to's on what feels should be a simple job?

cheers
Simon

Changing to forwards does not involve the brake system at all, changing the caliper and brake line does. You can bleed the brakes as you use to but
leave the contact from the bike in off position until you are done. This means do not let the abs pump circle because then you get air in the system.

I done many changes of brakelines on abs bikes without any problem but since last year I own a Memobike system and that let me bleed abs systems
just as the dealer does.

When I fit the forward controls I was planning on fitting braided hose if the original hose does not line up to the new rear brake master cylinder position.

The rear master cylinder does not change place if you replace the floorboards with forwards, it stays where it is now.

Fat Boy

For example, Fat Bob

Both photo's are a bit from a different angle but the master cylinder sits at the same spot. Some people think everything changes
wen you go from mids to forwards, well it is not the MC stays on his place, just the rod is different in length, same with the boards.

Yes, of course. Last time I did this was on an fxdl which was going from mid to forward, that is why I have it in my mind that I need to change out the hose on the rear.
