Pipes sound
The EITMS system is explained in detail here: https://university.fuelmotousa.com/a...-system-eitms/
The system used to be only on the Touring range of bikes, so a lot of folks were surprised by it on the new Softails. Contrary to what that says, it seems like my idle pops up about 50 - 100 rpm. The sound definitely changes - no classic "potato, potato" sound. It's smoother and almost sounds like a Japanese V-twin when it does it. I'm personally not bothered a bit by it. Anything that keeps the engine temps down is good by me - saves my engine so I can enjoy riding for more miles.
The thing here is that folks want their bike to "sound like a Harley" because they associate that sound with the motorcycle they love. The M8 engine has that "sewing machine" sound like a Jap bike or a Beemer - lots of mechanical whir, even compared to the Twin Cam in my Dyna. But the M8 is a lovely motor even in stock form, and the 18+ Softail frame is so superior to the Dyna chassis (and all the other HD frames) that this bike is just a dream by comparison. I've fallen in love with the new girl, and the sound she makes is growing on me.
All that said, a decent pipe, air cleaner, and cam will make that idle lumpier and uncork that Harley roar you want. I found even my K&N intake made a pretty big difference in sound - and a bit of butt dyno improvement too.
Enjoy your new scoot!
