Default What does rolling the throttle forward do?

I noticed there is some forward movement in the accelerator and it brought up a light on my dash. What does this actully do?

I lean over quite a bit but new risers are on order to fix the issue.

In my case it shuts off the cruise control.

Also without the engine running it is used to enable/disable ETMS (ETMS is the system that shuts off the rear cylinder at idle when the engine gets too hot - it's to stop it cooking your legs more than anything)

Cheers I have cruise kit on order.

So nothing horribly important or will cause an issue with the bike.

According to the owner's manual you can IF your bike has cruise control installed. Otherwise the EITMS has to be activated/deactivated by the dealer.

If you HAVE cruise control, rolling the throttle forward is one of five ways to override the cruise control, too.

To turn on EITMS, turn the engine switch on, but don't have the engine running. Roll the throttle forward and hold it 3 seconds. The "Cruise Control" lamp on the speedo will illuminate. If it illuminates amber in color, the EITMS is dis-engaged. Release the throttle. If you roll the throttle forward again for 3 seconds, the Cruise Control lamp will again illuminate, however, this time green. Release the throttle. The green indicates EITMS is engaged. Turn the engine switch off. When you start the bike, EITMS should be on. The on/off of EITMS toggles every time you roll the throttle forward, roll/hold and it turns green, roll/hold again, it turns amber, roll/hold again, it turns green.

What I've encountered, however, is that if you are riding and using cruise control, and you roll forward to dis-engage the cruise control, if I hold the forward roll too long, it also switches off the EITMS. I never notice it at the time, but later discover the EITMS is off. The engine cannot be running while turning EITMS back on; you have to turn off the engine, then turn on the engine switch only, and roll forward and hold the throttle for 3 seconds, watching for the color of the lamp, to re-engage it.

This is from my 2020 Softail owners manual.
"motorcycle may be running or not running"
It says nothing about cruise control has to be installed to perform this function at home.
I think maybe some are not doing the 3 sec. wait.

Old Mike is correct. Doesn't matter if the bike is running or not. Also cruise has nothing to do with EITMS.
