I had this issue start on my sport glide and it would only really do it if I had been parked in direct sunlight while I was at work, but I relocated my speedometer to my handlebars by using the speedo and tach from an FXLR and a gauge mount bracket back in May/June. Haven't had an issue so far.

Default Pissed off with condensation fogging up Speedo

I've read through the forum messages dating back over a couple of years, has anyone solved the problem yet?

I've got a 2016 Wide Glide, and in heat or humidity the bottom of the speedo fogs up and hides the LCD screen so I can't see the RPM etc.

They told me the 2005 was the start of the fix...

They will usually scratch up the tank or something so you won't ask for a third.

Haven't had any fogging with mine so long as I rotate the cover over most of it while in the sun. I don't ride in the rain or extreme cold though.

Zero fogging issues with the Dakota Digital replacement. It has however, done just a few strange things. One, it failed to sync with the ecu and caused a cel(cleared it and hasn't come back). That happened when I fired it up and the clock had reset, all my custom profile went back to default. I just turned it back off and fired it back up, reset the clock and all was well. On my long trip, heading back seen the gauge flicker and go blank a couple of times for a short period. Other than that, it's been good. Has never once fogged up or anything.

Default cause cold fuel in tank.

my findings have been that when filling the fuel tank with cold gas after running low and hot out it will haze a bit. park in the sunlight and it will dissipate and be normal.

I had three different speedometers on my '94 FLSTN during the 25 years I rode it. None of them ever showed any fogging under any conditions so I don't buy the "they all do that" line. Apparently the old mechanical speedos had no issues with this so I refuse to find it acceptable that the new electronic instruments do

take the unit, put it in a vacum oven, heat to 150 and draw a good vacume, let sit 2 min. purge to atmosphereic pressue with nitrogen for 2 min. Repeat 3x. remove from oven, and seal the port with a screw in plug and rtv. Problem solved.

This is the procedure for sealing instruments on aircraft, did it for years while in the Navy.

Well ... I can assure you that every one that I have had did it ... Yep, and ( almost ) everyone that I have ridden with has encountered this problem ... So maybe they all don't do it BUT a whole lot of them do ... Hence this topic keeps popping up along with videos of ( supposedly ) how to resolve it

Acceptable or not, it’s happening to a lot of us and the only thing the MoCo is willing to do is swap it with a new (but still defective) speedo unit. It’s damn frustrating!
