Default D&D Bobcat exhaust with LeatherPros saddlebags...Advice Needed

Hi all, I'm looking at a D&D Bobcat exhaust for my 2020 FXLRS and wanted to know if anyone has that exhaust installed AND is using LeatherPros saddlebags??

I've searched this forum and tried to look at pics online to determine the height of the tailpipe....but can't seem to make a 100% determination if the tailpipe clears the bottom of the Leatherpro Saddlebags?

If anyone is running a D&D Bobcat exhaust with saddlebags please let me know or please Post a pic.

Probably not particularly helpful, but on my Dyna Fat Bob I had the Bobcat exhaust and Leatherpros bags.

It worked just fine, but you would not want to store ice cream in the right hand side bag. In fact, everything in there stank of exhaust - so I just put all my dirty clothes in there and kept the clean stuff in the left hand side.

Excellent pipe and excellent bags apart from that.....

The new Leather Pros bags I have, there's a metal shelf under the bag.

There was a metal plate on the bottom of my older version bags as well.

But with a short exhaust, the contents of the bag still got warm and smelled of 'zorst....

I did call LeatherPros directly and their feedback regarding the D&D Bobcat pipe, particularly on the M8 Softail (since the pipe on the M8 actually has more of an Upsweep to it than the Dyna) is that it may potentially clear the bottom plate; however, with the upsweep exhaust tip the exhaust would be feeding directly on the underside of the bags.

My concern primarily was not with the exhaust output or heat per say (which it should be), but was actually if the pipe will even physically clear the underside of the bags. That clearance of course also depends on the height of the shock as well.

The dyna Bobcat pipe is not the same design, the M8 has even more of an upsweep to it... Bringing in both concerns with exhaust heat and gasses hitting the bag and also whether the pipe will even clear the bottom of the bag.

Bottom line: I'm not buying an exhaust that A) may not even physically clear the bottom of the bags and B) prevent me from using the LeatherPros bags for carrying suppies, which I already own.

I was mainly looking at the Bobcat because of the ground clearance it has, as compared to the Fatcat... In addition, D&Ds reputation for high quality and high performance. From what others have stated, the Fatcat does have enough ground clearance, although I question that based on the length of the tail pipe. In western NC and eastern TN there are arguably some of the most twisty roads in the US, so being able to lean my bike without gouging up a $1k+ exhaust is an absolute must.

I am currently running a Two Bros CompS exhaust which has incredible ground clearance, but wanted to try something new as I do plan to do a 128 or 131 kit next year and that shorter style of pipe is not the best performer with larger displacement motor builds. I know there are a lot of opinions on exhaust, but for me, ground clearance is my number 1 factor based on my riding style...followed very closely by performance/looks.

Since you might continue to look for an exhaust.
The shock height/length doesn't matter since the saddlebags AND exhaust both mount to the frame so their distance will remain the same and the swingarm will move independently.
FYI: I'm playing around with different (larger) baffles for my S&S exhaust since it's a relatively "long" exhaust in comparison to some others or if you want long maybe a Thunderheader. Clearance of course is an issue, are you using a longer shock?

My bad, I was thinking of clearance of the pipe itself not the bags. I am running a slightly longer shock, Ohlins HD506 as well as the front forks pushed down slightly with the fork shims, both proving a little more clearance. Also running Ohlins FKS-508 Nix30 cartridges up front.

With all that Ohlins gear I'd think you have a lot of options for exhaust with enough ground clearance.
