Yes for tuning but you can purchase additional license . However you can use the other tools with in the Power vision on other bikes .But once married that is the only bike you can tune without another license.
Unless you are buying it dirt cheap not worth it. Fuel moto will give you a good price Tune support ect. The used ones you never know how long it will last . they don't not last forever .

If an aftermarket map is loaded to it (or the bike it was on) thats when the union happens. Once the stock map is loaded back on it becomes an available unit again. It keeps from multiple bikes being tuned off the same programmer. If your buying one used as long as its original bike it was loaded on is back to stock you should be fine.

Explain how that works. When you hook it up the first time. You get the option to marry to the bike. Once you do move on start tuning . If you don't marry you can not tune with it. Once married it is married restoring factory tune does not unlock it. You can add license but it is forever lock to that ECM.
I have owned 3 power visions. 3 different bikes You information is not correct

Ok foot in mouth moment. The new lic. $199 fee is what they are charging now. I was thinking off my old trucks which h&s and edge tuners allow you to "divorce" the tuner and move to another vehicle. Guess that isn't the case anymore.

Power vision is a great tool for more than just tuning. It can be an almost dummy proof tool and one that allows your skills to grow. On the road my almost new 2016 gauges , went out. It was not a fuse issue. Plugged PV in set gauge display to show speed and road home.
If you have it mounted on the bike all the time and you ride in bad weather I suggest covering it or taking it off. Over time screen will degrade. Waterproof is a term . Not a 100% fact. If you do custom tunes , if you get a tune you like and your factory tune back them up on your computer. If it dies you are not getting them back in most cases.
Power vision so much more than a tuner.

Question Same motorcycle, same owner, new ECM

I recently had my ECM go out in my 2013 Heritage. It just so happened to quit working as I was across the street from my local dealership. While on the phone with them on the side of the road I told them I had a PV tuner and the service said great we know how to work with that tuner and we will be right over to pick you up. While waiting for the new ECU to arrive I spoke with the same service writer and expressed my concern about the tuner being married to only 1 bike and I would assume since it reads the ECM this may be an issue for my tuner. I was assured they knew the tuner and would make sure the tuner was remarried to the bike when I came to pick it up. Of course since I am writing on this forum they clearly did not remarry the tuner to my new ECM.

This specific dealership and I have had issues in the past, a few years ago my BCM blew out. I waited 10 weeks to get one (not their fault HD kept putting it on back order) I finally got my bike back late fall (in WI) it was 40 degrees when I rode it home and didn't touch it again until the next riding season besides plugging into the tender. Within the first 500 miles my dash looked like a xmas lights show. Upon doing some research I came up with the dealership most likely bent the ground pin and this was causing my issue. I informed the dealership of my concerns and stated I would like to bring my bike in and check to see if that happened. They refused to do so, did a diagnostic on my bike and told me it was the speedo. Didn't believe them but they refused to do the work I asked, did work I did not ask for, and told me they wouldn't give me my motorcycle back unless I paid for the unrequested service.

Alright enough complaints about the dealership, long story short: being the person who originally bought the tuner, registered the tuner to myself and my motorcycle, is there a way to remarry the tuner to my bike? I do not want to buy another license as I still own the bike and am not moving the tuner to a new bike.
