At the start of each riding season I will put a very small amount of Vaseline on the rubber bushings/mounts. Makes removal simpler and still maintains good grip.

That sounds like a good idea, I will do that next time I take it back off.

I don’t recommend petroleum products on rubber unless I know for sure what rubber compound I’m working with. I suggest Armor All if you want to lubricate the rubber bushings.

This hasn't been stated before, so I'll add: loosen the screws a couple of turns (T27). The grommets squeeze the bracket from the sides.

Mine has always been tough to remove. I straddle the front wheel, lift way up on the spring retainers with each hand and pull the windshield forward with my chin,
(really )

The biggest pro for me is the weight. My Ultra started getting heavy about a year ago and has just been getting heavier each time I rode it.
I have only had the softail for 2 days so way to soon to give you my thoughts on it. It is a bitchin' bike, that 114 is a torque monster and that is cool, it vibrates more than the Ultra, things in the mirror are not as clear but then it is a frame mount engine and not broke in .The last softail I bought was in 2002 which was a Fatboy, I have been riding baggers since 2005, bought a 2005 Electra Glide new in 2005, rode it for 14 years and then traded it in on the 2015 Ultra 2 years ago. I will say one thing, the engineers that designed the Rushmore bikes in my opinion missed the ball in many areas. My 2005 was way more comfortable than the 2015 was, it had a better seat position, better bar comfort and I did not feel like I was riding on the tank. The 103 engine in the 2015 ran much better than the 88 engine in the 2005, but that was about where it ended for me. I never got comfortable with the 2015, maybe I did not give it enough time, who knows. So I will see how this Heritage works out for us. This is my first experience with the M8 motor, so I am looking forward to pounding out some miles on it. These HD's just seem to get better and more refined all the time. for sure a lot different than the shovels I started out on in the 70's. And all this stuff I said is just my opinion, I know every bike is different for different people. I look forward to riding this bike and getting to know it. I do really like that it is lighter and closer to the ground ( I think I said this already ). If I was 10 years younger I would probably still be riding the Ultra. All good stuff.

I traded my Road Glide Special for pretty much the same reason. Getting pretty heavy especially maneuvering around in a tight area and knowing my limitations. I love my Heritage and quite honestly the more I ride it the more I know I made the right decision. You’ll be glad you did, I’m sure.
Good luck and enjoy!
