I have a 2020 Sport Glide, and I'd like to upgrade the current SE perimeter high flow air cleaner I have to 1) change up the look and 2) be ready to go to stage 3 in a year or two and not have to change the air cleaner again. I'm stuck between the SE ventilator extreme or SE round extreme air cleaners. I realize this is all aeshetics and both will likely flow way more air than what I need, but in looking at these, I was wondering if anybody who has either can tell me the thickness of either (as in distance from the baseplate to the outside of the air filter cover). I want to get an idea of how much narrower/wider either of these is based on my current setup, and I can't seem to find anywhere where HD posts any dimensions or specs. It's all just their marketing-speak in the description, which is pretty much useless.
Also, I'm probably reading too much into this, but it seems to me that HD pushes the ventilators over the round air cleaners. I say this because when I go on their website and filter parts based on my bike, they don't even list a replacement filter for my current perimeter high flow filter or for any round air filter for that matter. They only list the heavy breather and ventilator filters. Is this because the ventilator or heavy breathers are superior or recommended for Softtails? Or is it just because they can make more money off me if they push me that way lol?
I was just going to buy the backplate only from my dealer for the SE round high flow a/c kit, which would have solved all my problems cheaply. I could switch this backplate in for my current perimeter flow backplate, and then I would only have to replace the cover (like I want to anyway) and if I felt the need, throw in an extreme round filter, since all 3 of these kits are basically the same. But as it turns out, the round high flow / extreme flow kits are the only ones where you can't buy the backplate as a separate stand alone part, whereas you can with the ventilator kits. Yet another reason why it seems from my point of view that HD really wants me to use a ventilator for some unknown reason.
Anyway, beyond all my speculation, it would be nice for the price of these things if HD could provide some basic specs like product dimensions. Any help is appreciated.
Have you thought about going to a dealer, and looking at them?
I haven't been able to get up to a dealer yet, but based on what my local dealer shows online, they have nothing with the extreme round on it which is the one I'm more interested in at the moment. I'll hopefully get up there this week, but was hoping someone who had one could give me a quick measurement.
the extreme round might stick out further and hit your knee/leg
Based on what I have now and knowing that the extreme round is taller yet, I think you're definitely right. Thanks for pointing that out. I'd rather not be banging my leg into it constantly.
