and if you don’t know how to loosen a torqued bolt the same advice would apply.

I just learned last week that removing these 4 bolts is the preferred way to remove fender. I originally went with removing screws in saddlebag area, and there are female nuts inside the fender that are a nightmare to line up! what do they say? experience comes from experience!

You don't have to tighten the bolts by putting a three foot pipe on the end of the wrench!!!

Here's the thing though....the bolts that HD uses for the supports are pretty cheap, low tensile Torx head bolts. And they suck.

The problem is not snapping the bolt, but stripping the head of it at 42 ft lbs. Very easy to do as (IMHO) the Torx bolts used by HG are normally just shitty fasteners and I hate them.

So there is a good reason for the recommended torque setting. If you go any higher than the recommended maximum, then you will almost certainly strip the head of the fastener, but not break the bolt itself. Which is no fun.

That said, this has got me thinking that I should probably replace these fasteners on my bike with proper high tensile 12.9 ARP or Allen head versions before I actually need to. Does anyone know what they are off the top of their head? 2" x 3/8" UNC perhaps?
