I've been working on my lady's new Softail Slim and installed a set of Vance and Hines Big Radius pipes. They have a nice sound when she accelerates but we are looking for a louder sound. I called V&H tech and asked if I should trim some inches off the factory baffle to help open them up. They told me that the new M8 motors don't have the same rumble that the older motors have. Has anyone done this before? Still waiting on the new air cleaner before we get it tuned but don't think that will effect the sound of the bike.
Nice bike. Very interested in the responses you get.
We just purchased my wife nearly the same bike this past weekend. Flat black with different bars. My wife wanted the V&N Big Radius, too. They arrived last night, so I started on them late and got finished installing after midnight. I followed the instructions then after I finished (too many beers along the way) noticed this bracket (pic below) that probably should have been taken off (?)
Doesn't look like it's installed on your bike. Did you take if off? If so, how and how difficult was it?

Yes that bracket should be removed. The new bracket that was provided with the pipes is all that's needed.
Suggest you find out if the previous owner installed the quiet baffles, it sounds as if this is what happened. I had those pipes on my '05 95CI FB and they were plenty loud enough.
Should that be the case contact V&H and get the correct baffles. Appears to be a stage 1? You'll have to remap it too.

I have the same pipes on my Street Bob and agree that they sound really nice but could be louder. Not sure how to remove the baffles in the pipes. I already have an aftermarket air cleaner so I would image that if the baffles are removed the bike would need to be re-tuned correct? Can you run without the baffles or do you need to install new ones? My wife has Rinehart slipons on her Sportster and they are a lot louder than mine.
