Default Heel / Toe Shifter

1st question, since the Heritage Softail Classic is considered a Touring Bike, then why did they remove the heel shifter starting in 2018(?)?
2nd question, how hard is it to add this heel shifter, or should I have the dealership do it?

thanks.

They removed them from all the Touring models. Apparently, most people were removing them, so they decided to ditch it. It's an easy install if you have reasonable mechanical skills, and there are YouTube how-to videos available.

Do you use the same shaft or do you need a "shaft extension" or something like that?

I can't speak for the m8 but on a twin cam you're gonna have to pull the outer and inner primary to install that shaft.

Unless the M8 is different in a softail than a street glide the heel lever is just an add on

If you order the HD heel shift lever it will come with the correct black rubber/polymer shaft spacer.

I think I offered advice in error. My apology. The lever might be the same as a Street Glide that I referenced, but it appears that the shaft might in fact need to be changed judging from the P&A catalog for a 2018 softail heel shift lever. My apologies.

I'd check with HD and see if there's a kit available.
New softails designed for toe shift only.
