My dealer just showed me that H-D is discontinuing the Slim, the sport glide and another model I dont remember. For me the slim was one of the best combo in the softail line up the only thing I was hoping for was to see the 114 in it but instead they just kill it
Harley, RAM, Ford, and most assembly line automotive manufacturers, found that making many different "models" was costly. If they reduce the number of models, quality goes up. If they created aftermarket lines for accessories, they will see more profits.
I can understand why the Slim would be on the chopping block, but the Sport Glide I'd be surprised. That bike has been a real good seller, and its a best seller in the EU.
Though with everyone buying Loweride S and Street Bobs maybe they arent selling enough of them?
Still surprised about the sport glide, there was a rumor about it being discontinued last year but that turned out to not be true.
Maybe HD wants people to buy more Fat Boys and Heritages instead of Slims?
I hate these "my dealer showed me" threads because 80% of the time they end up being false information.
I really hope the Sport Glide doesn't get discontinued because it's an awesome bridge between the Softails and the touring bikes. I like it though and I have the worst luck so it probably will be discontinued. I do wonder how the sales were because most of the local dealership had them on the Showroom floor in new or used form.
The Slim, on the other hand, was a very generic and bland looking Softail so I wouldn't be surprised if it is discontinued.
They need to bring the wide and super glide back! I know wishful thinking.
If they wanna bring back the Wide Glide... I think they should just take the Softail Standard, put chrome forwards on it, 5gal tank, and a stock 114 with ABS.
Easy money.

Allen's Alley deals in used bikes, mostly Harleys. I was talking to Allen a while back before I bought my Sport Glide and he told me the Sport Glides were getting pretty scarce, at least at the auctions. He said that he used to be able to pick them up at auction for a good price, now, if they do have one, you're going to pay a premium. Seems they got more popular. I imagine the MOCO makes these decisions a couple years in advance, if not more, so if the bike gets popular after the decision is made, oh well, too late. If this is true, I'm just glad I was able to get the one I have. At my age, it is probably the last bike I'll buy.

If that was the case than why bring back other models like the softail standard? I would get it if they didnt sell well but from what I can see on the road its not that bad.
