We(Motorcycle riders) hardly get rear ended slowing down anyways.
We mostly get rear ended sitting behind a car or at a stop light.
Which is why I lane filter, and sit off the the side of the lane if possible.
I'm not a believer in "mostly". That's like saying "I don't carry my gun at Scheels because, mostly people don't get shot there." It's about being prepared all the time and doing what you can to mitigate danger. I'll add that anything that I can do to get ******** to stop closing distance on my wife is a win in my book.

That's a good question, I would doubt that minuscule amount of deceleration would trigger the device. I would think that any engineer worth their salt would have factored that into the design. I guess we'll see for sure though.

I had one on another bike, the problem was that the rear fender shook so badly it would randomly flash and drive the people behind me batty. It flashed when I came off of a hard acceleration and over bumps and potholes, but it definitely came on when I decelerated. That was some years ago, I imagine tech's come far enough to have something better by now. Good luck!

The ST2 uses an accelerometer and has adjustable sensitivity so isn't just looking at the clutch and throttle position

Kudos Snake Eyes for looking out for the misses! Any added safety to keep her safe is worth it.

Not attached to the bike, but…

I have the Brake Free Helmet Light that has different modes and when you decelerate for any reason it will act like I am breaking. It I sn’t attached to the bike…works by sensing the deceleration. There is a helmet law here (Though I ride ATGATT anyways cause that works for me) The guys I ride with have all seen it and said it works you can tell I am slowing down even if my brake lights are not activated. Even had other riders come up and ask me about it after riding behind me. And I find most cars stay back and give me room while riding. At night it gives me more visibility. I leave it in the mode where it is always on and then goes into brake mode when decelerating.

https://www.brakefreetech.com

There was another one I looked at which worked wirelessly in combination with an onboard module that was hardwired on the bike and did the deceleration of all types and also did the turn signals as well…called inView. Didn’t feel like doing the hookup with wires and when I was considering it, saw the one I got on a nice older rider on a really nice CVO Road Glide on the upper east side of Manhattan and never having seen that one at that time, went up to him and asked him about it. I was sold after talking to him.

It works for me.

FWIW Just saw a lot of knock offs on Amazon…Personally not sure I would trust those…but they may be ok…just don’t know…and I am set with something I trust.

You might look into the Hex ezCAN controller for Harley Davidson. It allows you do exactly that - program the rear brake light to flash on engine braking as well as normal braking. It's fun adjustable as to how much braking, what speed it illuminates over etc, etc...

But that is only one minor bit of functionality that it has. It gives you 4 high current programmable outputs that you can use to easily run aux lights, turn signals, high power horns, heated gear, etc. All interfaced to the CAN bus and controllable using the existing controls on the bike.

It's a very clever piece of kit.

Actually have that installed on mine to use to add other things, as I already had the custom dynamics magic strobes installed to flash my brakes. It’s easy to install and program via computer hooked up to it. Plugs into your CANBus connector. Here is the programming screen that shows the on/off setting for rapid engine breaking and other options:

That's really cool!. For 89 bucks and 30% off with the coupon they sent, I'm going with the ST2 that @Jay Too recommended.

The more that I think about the ST2 the more that I like it. I ride with long tassels on both levers. Unfortunately the wind resistance on my brake lever kicks off my cruise control and probably flashes my rear tail light. This would allow me to disable the brake switch in the hand lever, but still have my tail light come on when braking.
