Never in my years riding different Haley's have I ever had trouble with the kickstand.
I'm not real enamored with the current hinky mid frame mounting BS they have now, hate on my Road King. The old style, man I've abused that over the years still using the kicker on th old shovel.
Whichever misguided soul in HD marketing gave it that moniker should be forced to ride a Vespa for the next 10 years.

Harley Davidson came up with the name "Jiffy Stand" about 100 years ago, probably long before there was a marketing department.
At the time, Harley Davidson motorcycles had nothing but a cumbersome center stand.
The new stand could be deployed in a "Jiffy".
That is how it got its name, long before anyone thought up the terms side stand, kick stand, and long before Honda, Kaw, Suz started building mopeds.
Welcome to Harley Davidson ownership, over the years you will hear terms that sound weird, but most likely are the original names for something, long before some other newcomer company gave it a name, so hold off on the silly rants until you get it.

Your worries are over nothing. I do pull my bike backwards a little if my bike is facing down hill , I don't even think of it.
My only complaint is I wish it was a little longer.
I don't think some of the posters here realize that the Softail kick-stand is not the Jiffy stand we all know and love. I don't think it locks like the Jiffy stand, and the stand's angle is too shallow for my liking. You have to lean the bike over-center to the right in order to clear the pavement when deploying it because it's too freakin' long.
I've gotten used to it, but by comparison to the traditional Jiffy stand, these things are pure dog ****.
