Default Mid Frame Air Deflectors on a Softail

Has anyone on the forum installed the Mid Frame Air Deflector, part number 29200105 on their softail? Does it help the engine run cooler? Does it only keep the heat off you, and not really help the engine cooling? Here is the link: https://www.harley-davidson.com/us/e...tor/p/29200105

I just bought and installed on on my ST. I have not ridden it since I installed it. I’m sure it will still be hot but I won’t keep putting my inner thigh on the right side head any longer. Mission accomplished for me…worth the $100 for that alone.

Frankly I wouldn’t even dick around with those plastic shields. Most of the guy riding the baggers that comes with them take them off and put on the heat shield from Captain Itch. I’ve had them on my last 5 bikes.

For what it’s worth

Supposidly, according to DK, just one side on the bike helps, both together hurts.
I guess that makes sense since one side would draw in a lot of air and the other side being wide open lets the air pass through.
So install just one side.

I think DK's recommendation only applies to the touring frame bikes- the latest deflectors mentioned here are specific to the softtail frame, which is a bit different in the rear cylinder area.

Advanblack makes them specifically for the M8/Softail and they offer them in the color of your bike. I also believe that DK customs was referring to the touring bikes.

I thik Advanblack paint them and sell them...not sure they make them. The logic for having one side open to assist airflow will work on softails and Tourers
