I recently purchased a 22 Heritage and plan on installing some slip Ons. The bike has approx 2200 miles on it and I’m wondering if it is necessary to change the exhaust gaskets.
They are $14.95 each. I would change them out as removing them tends to cause damage. I removed slip-ons on my Low Rider ST with only 125 miles and one would not come off without damage.
You have gaskets with slip-on mufflers? I've done a few slip-on mufflers over the years and never saw one with gaskets. Now removing the head pipes, yea, but I've only had to replace those gaskets once or twice. When putting slip-on mufflers on, I've never had to remove the head pipes.

Thanks
The stock gaskets won't come out without damaging them. Just my experience. Aftermarket slip on's will usually come with their own specific gaskets. Depending on the Aftermarket slip on's, the gaskets might need to be replaced anytime you remove one. Another thing I found with the aftermarket slip on's. The ones I had, the inlet became distorted and were no longer round after torqueing the muffler clamp to spec. The steel wasn't as thick as the stock mufflers. Had to buy a tool to get the inlet back to round. And had to use high temp rtv to get them to not leak.
I have gaskets on my mufflers, 2017 Sportster. They are very good and don't get damaged. I have swapped slip-ons from stock to 3rd party a couple times and they just work. The gaskets a stuck pretty firm in the muffler but don't need to be removed.
They stop the muffler from seizing to the header. A very good upgrade by HD, IMO.
The V&H # 16716 Eliminator slipons fit over the headpipes without using gaskets, only the supplied clamps. That part # is discontinued, I purchased in June!
I think it’s always good practice to replace those when taking something off. Most new exhausts will come with the gaskets, I know they do for the systems
