As I read more and more of your posts on the subject of engine improvements, I understand that you like the performance and agreement you get, but for me the post on fuel economy is very important, since I cover about 16,000 miles a year and fuel costs the equivalent of $7.70 for a gallon in France, I prefer to stay in my stock configuration with just my Twin Slash to get a good sound and fuel consumption still above 50 mpg.
Anyway, I don't like aggressive riding, I prefer to ride cool and enjoy the scenery, and I've got enough of power and torque to enjoy myself.
What I shoot for as well, I run the hated SE tuner on a stock 114, 2020 RGS. I run a complete Cobra exhaust. Main reason for the tuner along with smoking deal for it new in box. I average 50 so I am happy with that as well as the power of the 114. After owning EVOs and a twinkie, this motor is almost perfect and the reliability factor is great as well despite interwebs horror stories.
I agree with you
I had also 2 EVO's and a 103 Twinkie in the past, and I find this 114 so much better in every situation, even better than my 107 stage 1 on my Heritage which has also a 50 plus mpg, no worries in more than 20000 miles with these M8 engines and so much pleasure even in stock or only stage 1 configuration, don't need more...
"My mileage dropped from 46 mpg to 35 mpg."
Wow that's substantial, my 114' with a cam, pipe, a/c, larger manifold, tuned on a dyno with Power Vision, gets 48 on the 2 lanes @ 60 mph, 43@ 80mph.
That's fairly typical for the Thundermax from what owners have reported. It isnt nearly as plug and play as they would have you believe. Considering I'm very comfortable with the power vision, and have a lot of time invested in learning to use it, I will stick with that.

Once you learn a system, stick with it, unless it gives you a GOOD reason to go elsewhere. Investing the time to learn any system is a must to get optimal performance AND fuel mileage.
