Just some information on tires, different manufactures tyres of the exact same size can all vary in actual width, so one will be skinnier than another.

I came a cross a very good example of this issue yesterday when fitting the wheel back in on my wife's M8 Deluxe.

Now all the Softails we have had have always had more tire to fender clearance on the right than the left, that's just how it is!

The specifics, M8 Deluxe MU8516 Dunlop fitted as standard, fine, I replaced my M8 Deluxe rear last year with an Avon Cobra Chrome (MU = 140) with a recommended Avon 140/90 16, they also say you can use a 150/80 16, they all are White Walls so less choice of tyre but regard sizing it make no difference to the width.

The Avon 140/90 is actually considerably narrower than the Dunlop MU85, OK, I don't like the narrower look but I'll run it until it's worn.

So my wife's tires needs replacing, I order and Avon Cobra Chrome 150/80 16, for the rear a recommended fitment and find it is much wider than the 140 or the MU85 and gave minimal clearance on the left side to the fender, remember it will expand to some extent when hot, so I have to shim out the left fender rail to get a good working clearance on the left side of the fender basically to get another 1/8" so this is something to consider.

In the Evo days with the wider belts certain brand of the same sizes tires would actually rub the belt when fitted as they were that bit wider!

Here's a picture of both identical bikes today, the 150 on the left & the 140 on the right, not a great picture but very obvious the difference in width!
