Slowing working through 1k service on the wife's FXBBS while my foot is healing and am on checking the steering head bearings. Anyone who's done this have a recommendation on a specific tool? Seems like the shop manuals have gotten crappier over the years since they used to call out specialty tools before.
Hmmm, so after posting that and looking at the diagram again it looks like they're suggesting using a normal pull force gauge, a thin rope and a small wrench to secure it with?

Wallyworld, Amazon, a fishing and hunting store near you should have the scale or one like it as shown in the pic. You see the little black dot on the scale number, that stays in place when you release the scale.
You can check it's accuracy with an item of know weight (fishing weights are not what they claim, not sure about common weight lifting weights?). Or get a 1 gallon water jug, if it was filled correctly, it will be about an ounce or so over 8 pounds (due to the container it should be over 8#).
