The Everything M8 Street Bob Thread
Note: Assembly Instructions,Step 5 - In case you are using the OEM fender you just need to replace the OEM shock head with the included new one.
I now know what the problem is.
I replaced the number late light and still had the Security system light on.
Went back through checking everything and noticed that the brake lights were permanently on.
Ran a diagnostic check and got:
B2161h - brake lamp open
B2262c - Front switch brake stuck
So, there's my problem.
Now need to order the Harley-Davidson Hand Control Brake Switch 71500118

Yes, a bit of a faff - the wires run from the switch into/through a molded plastic part inside the switch housing - there's absolutely no way to remove the wires!
So, I had to cut and solder the new switch in - just took my time and tested as I went along - all back together and brake lights working as they should.
Note to self: I'll clear the codes tomorrow.

despite all my efforts to get it setup for my OH, we're going to have to sell the Street Bob

We even went to an airfield to give her the best opportunity in a safe environment for a final test ride.
Unfortunately, she just can't get on with it - she's absolutely gutted!
So today was spent, checking it over, sorting things out, taking pictures and advertising it for sale.

We're actually looking at getting her what she use to ride - a Kawasaki EN500 A1.
The Street Bob was, unfortunately, a step too far.
When she's back to riding regularly again we can perhaps, in the future, look at something like an 883 Sportster.

What was it that your wife didn't get on with. Before the Street Bob i had a Rebel 1100 which overall was a much easier bike to ride but only sacrificing a bit of power. Although i had manual you can also get DCT if gears and clutch are an issue
The Best of Harley-Davidson for Lifelong Riders
- She just couldn't get the knack of getting it into neutral (despite the Kraus E-Z shift);
- Turning was an issue, i.e. too much of a stretch;
- She couldn't reach the switch controls (indicators, horn) without having to physically move her hands up the grips.
- She also felt that it was too powerful (torquey) for her to ride safely.
So, last Saturday, I took it to the Harley dealership first to see what they would offer me as a Part Exchange - I'd seen a mint 2004 Fat Boy (tastefully customised) and a 2005 Heritage (Stage 2 kit) that I was potentially interested in as a straight swap.
Crikey
Harley offered me peanuts, infact, I was quite shocked! It would have been @PX + Ł1.5/2k to swap - that wasn't going to happen!I then went to an independent dealer (non-HD) to see what they had and how much they would offer me PX.
They looked around the bike, took pictures and said they would get back to me.
While I was there looking around, I spotted a 2023 Sport Glide (less than 2k miles) that had literally just come in.
I had a chat with the sales person and left it with them.
Got a phone call Sunday late morning with a deal - they offered me Ł1k more than anywhere else for the Street Bob and knocked Ł1500 off the Sport Glide (making it the cheapest Sport Glide in the Country by some margin).
No brainer - deal done, deposit paid and now just waiting for them to prep it ready for collection.
Why a Sport Glide?
As my OH has her own bike now, I was looking for something to commute to work on, capable of comfortably doing 2-up riding and wanted something for cruising/touring on (without going for a full on tourer).
...and the Sport Glide ticks all those boxes.
