Has anyone else here had to deal with this happy horsesh!t? At first I thought it was going to be cheap pot metal, but it turns out that it's plastic. 55 bucks worth of plastic. I've been looking on the internet but can't find an aftermarket alternative. I found two for sale on ebay, but both sellers want over 100 bucks, makes me think it's a perpetually backordered part.
Yeah, mine is missing and the side trim has started shedding it's fasteners too!
Really disappointing. And you're correct, only 2 dealers in the states have 1 in stock. And the MoCo will not allow shipping to me out of area.
I broke one of the posts taking them off to get them painted. Looked around on the interwebs and didn't find anything. Had the stealership special order, took about a week if I remember right.
Yeah, mine snapped off after just a few months. I'm sure the new one will do it too. It is a cheap POS part, and I too haven't seen anything of any substance on the aftermarket.
Thanks guys. It's a -05A part number, so they've been using it for 19 years one way or another. I foresee a paint job for my bike in the future, and I'll probably just fill the holes and have no fender trim at all. I like that look.
Paint job probably won't be for a couple of years, though. I'm not sure if I'll replace the trim before that.

Thats my eventual plan too - weld holes and repaint, but it will be years before I do that. Until then - no trim.

When my HD dealer has been out of stock on an item I want, but another HD dealer has it, my dealer has gotten the item from the other dealer and shipped it to me.
Oddly, there is nothing aftermarket I can find. I'm actually kinda surprised by this.
Next time it breaks, I may spend some time trying to figure something else out. Like seeing of my old RK trim will fit, or maybe trying to fabricate something from rubber with small screws or adhesive.

As it turns out one of those two dealers was the local Albuquerque dealer. Now there's only one.
