Default It's Goodbye HC Hello RKS

I've had this 2018 HC for just over a year, and poured several thousand into it figuring this will be my last bike. I was hoping that finding the front motor mount bolts were missing was the source of the vibration complaints I have. Replacing the bolts did improve the vibes, but the buzzing in the handgrips (I have Raynaud's disease the vibes aggravate it) and lack of traction control (scary moment last month) convinced me it had to go.

It was a tough decision that I really struggled with as I did enjoy the lighter weight and agility of the HC, my wife will not ride anymore so it was the perfect solo bike.

Put a deposit on a 2024 Road King Special in white and the dealer gave me an acceptable value for my trade, (the goodies are coming off and he is getting the basic bike). He doesn't have one in stock, it will be a couple weeks to get here and I'm having the 12" low shocks replaced with the Screaming Eagle 13" Ohlins, along with 22" windshield, heated grips, LED saddlebag running lights and USB port (can't believe there isn't one), extended shift and brake pedal.

Once I've gotten some miles on it, seat upgrade will be next, possibly fangs, saddlebag guards, LED signal lights.....you know the routine.......Stock engine and exhaust....I like a quiet bike.

Thank you to everyone in this section of the forum that has helped me and provided great advice.

Hope you like that new road king. I personally am living my heritage, but have considered trading for a street glide; if I'm gonna go to a touring frame, I want the fairing. Out of curiosity, are you gonna be selling any of the goodies you took off?

Default Vibration

I understand you on the vibration I to have not got past that I've got back problems that affect my right leg . The only longer trip I've took on mine the vibration was very noticable. Especially in the grips and floorboards. It's definitely better than the older softails but it's still there . I don't want to go to any touring bike though just to much weight and I never cared for the looks of them . Been doing alot of research on the Softail vibration and there's really not a cure for it just have to learn to live with it.

Never say never, but since I tasted the new Softail chassis, this is my third model, I don't think I'll go back to Touring, much too heavy for me at my age (soon 65) and as I ride solo exclusively like you, I don't need it.
But I understand that when you have health problems, certain compromises are necessary.
But for me the vibrations are part of the charm of these models...

Hope you enjoy the change but IMO it could be a costly mistake.

Its important to be happy and feel good with your ride. If you have to go through several models and platforms to get there then so be it. Life is short. Have fun and enjoy.

Very costly, just hoping it isn't a mistake. Problem is you never know until you've had a ride for a while

Back in 2013 I bought a switchback I loved it so much, I rode it everywhere, round town, touring, solo & 2up, the saddlebag capacity was the only negative so I upgraded to a Streetglide Special late 2015, my mate worked at Harley City in Melbourne at the time & he reckoned I would regret the change, sadly he was correct, from about 2 hours after I took delivery of it I hated everything about it except for the saddlebag capacity which was great, fast forward to 2021 & a few other mistakes & I traded my then Road King for a Heritage Classic, the saddle bag capacity is rubbish but I love everything else about her & then suddenly just recently I found myself lusting after a 2024 Streetglide, WTF! So, I gave myself an uppercut & a good talking to & have come to my senses.

Love my Heritage.
