Default 23 fxlrs air cleaner replacement

Just picked up a fxlrs and like others, the air cleaner is in the way. I am wondering if there is another option that performs similarly so that I don't have to get a tuner in order to swap it out.

I will probably get a tuner anyway, but I don't want to do it tomorrow, since I am doing other things that are already stretching the budget.
I'd like to get it swapped at the 1000 mile service, so I'll probably try to order it ahead of time so they can do it while they have it in the shop. Most I might do is street cannons in the future. The bike is scary faster than the 107, and I wanted abs and better shocks, and brakes, mags, inverted forks, bigger tank, fatter tires, better rear fender, more lights, better rake, etc, so I convinced myself to trade instead of doing those upgrades to my old bike.

But that air cleaner is definitely in the way of my highway pegs, and I think that it's not passing that much more air if it's closed off up front. I will ask them at the dealership as well but I guess I am deferring to the wisdom of the forum, for reasons.

Any help with this is appreciated. TIA.

SE Extreme Ventilator would be my choice. 40% better flow than the heavy breather and fits well with forward controls.
There is an HD tune for this breather on an otherwise stock engine which a dealer can upload during the service.
If you start adding exhausts, cam etc then you will need your own tuner or a visit to a dyno shop.

Hmmm, my .02 worth…. Swapping out the air cleaner assembly for one that flows more air when you’re still running the stock pipes isn’t going to really affect the bikes tune enough you need to update it. There is more than enough in PCM to adjust and handle it.

I ran mine with a K@N filter with a Riot pipe for well over a year before I updated the tune, I had the updated tune and PV but I was lazy and procrastinated. It took less than 5min to update/flash it, it felt good before however it’s super crisp now and other than being lazy I have no other excuse.

I mounted Screaming Eagels air filters and it made a big difference.

I have the SE vent, it works well but I’m having trouble with the aesthetics. It looks like a mailbox hanging on the side, reminds me of the old newspaper boxes used as Holley scoops back in the day.

And there’s something about a round air filter on a twin, it just looks better to my eye. Figure I’m going to replace it with a big sucker type and not worry about supporting the 150hp, I’ll never have.

My SE ventilator will be getting sold very soon.

Good luck.

+1 for the screaming eagle ventilator. I'm running the Ness Big Sucker drop in filter that fits perfectly and is a taller/wider filter element that is re-usable. Similarly the BMF filter is another great option to be paired with the ventilator intake.

Excellent reference pics there. I'm guessing that's the standard Ventilator. The Extreme has a larger (deeper) filter element. But looking at that, I doubt the Extreme would protrude further than the brake pedal pivot, so still a lot less intrusive than the heavy breather.

Necro thread bump. I settled on the Screamin' Eagle Ventilator Extreme Air Cleaner

I am really happy with it. Lots of leg room, and it works really well. At first, I wasn't sure I would like it, but I am really happy with the choice.

$250 for an air cleaner?
It's a world gone mad.

250 dollars for the air cleaner, and another 200 dollars for the frame that holds it in place.

Performance wise, worth every penny. The computer is getting used to it. It's doing well for the otherwise stock 117, 50 state legal, and warranty intact.
