Default ESP ?

Gotta ? about whether or not to keep my Harley esp, the factory warranty expired last year on my 21 bob, and my 1yr esp is about to expire in November. So far the only thing my scoot has been in the shop for was a squeaky belt, the belt was inspected and there wasn't even a deductible charge. IMHO the $1,236. for the esp is a crap shoot, but some would say it's the peace of mind is what matters most. So far my 21 bob has just under 3k on the clock since the only place I take it is to and from work. Last year about this time I was contemplating dumping the esp, but decided to see how things went, so rather than just renew the esp again, I am kinda curious about aftermarket esp. One in particular is Motorcycle Agent, so if anyone has any experience with them please advise.

You have to think of all those aftermarket ESP plans as more of an insurance policy.
You are paying for them up front for when/if something breaks.

I choose to "self insure". I have the funds available to fix whatever might pop up.
And if nothing breaks, I haven't spent anything.

In over 50 years of driving and or riding, I have saved quite a bit of money by not buying those policies.

Of course for some, they come in very handy and gives them piece of mind.
You just have to remember, you are paying for something up front that may or may not ever happen.

Point well taken, sounds very plausible actually, i guess Harley makes it to easy to just include the esp in with the finance payment.

Oh, it is not just Harley.
Auto/Truck dealers work the same way.

They all do their best to get the buyer to focus on monthly payments, and not the total amount they are spending.

If they can get you to focus only on monthly payments, it is very easy for them to then sell you all kinds of "Extras".

If anyone is going into a bike (or auto/truck) purchase only focusing on the monthly payments, they will pretty much be at the mercy of any dealer.

I bought an extended warranty for my Triglige; anything that goes wrong with that can be VERY expensive plus they have a reputation of things going wrong. I don't plan to buy one for my Hydrglide when the factory warranty expires. As someone else said, I'll just self insure that bike

I never buy them. You better find out if any mods will void the warranty if you are considering it.

Another factor you need to consider is how well your Mothership will honor the ESP. My first ESP, on the FatBob, more than payed for itself. The second one, for the FatBoy, didn't even come close. What was the difference? The local Mothership had change hands and the service department had run through 4 or 5 managers by the time it expired. After the (then current) service manager refused to cover claims under the ESP, I decided to not extend it. As for the RKS???? I've already voided that warranty. So.......

100% agree with how easy they make it. When I got my heritage last year, I was adamant I wasn't going to want any extras with it. When the finance girl showed my payment would only change by $5 a month. For a gallon of gas a month, I couldn't turn it down.
