Check your exhaust header and any other hot areas around the engine for something that shouldn't be there. I used to have a BMW F800GS that smelled like a burning garbage pit after a ride. It took a while, but I finally found the culprit -- a piece of plastic from above the exhaust manifold had broken loose and wedged itself right at the exhaust header, and every time I rode that plastic got hot, melted a little, and gave off that smell. I fished the broken plastic out of there and cleaned up the header, and no more smell.
My 23' Heritage had a horrible smell once parked after a ride as well. It ended up being protective plastic that wasn't fully removed from the mufflers during PDI by the dealer. I had to crawl on the ground and look up at the mufflers to find it - pretty hard to see. The plastic was partially melting, I removed it - smell gone. Hope this is the case for you as well
you say it smells like rotten eggs, thats a tell.
lot of trans lubes have a heavy sulfur smell, id be checking transmission filler and top cap see if its leaking
Transmission venting has that "rotten egg: smell. Some are worse than others. When I use Formula+, I don't smell it as bad as when I use the HD Gear oil. When I've used Redline Shockproof, I get no stank whatsoever.
At the 1k service, everything is just settling in, and you may not notice as much. After awhile, it becomes a routine smell that you don't need to worry about. All of this was told to me by a HD Master Technician who knows his stuff.......a rarity at a a dealership these days.
