I just had to do the same job a few weeks ago. For me it was the two front bolts they were blocked by the skid pan under the oil pan, it had holes in it but didn't line up . Also had to pull the rear wheel.I used the gasket from HD 25.00 bucks.

I’ve looked for one, but not found it. It does look fairly straight forward to make one and fit it to the bike. The underside is clear of the frame rails, so I should be able to make a pretty simple skid plate held on with hose clamps.

Alternatively, I could try not going down rocky “road” like that again. Or at least not that fast. 😆

If you scroll down the page there is a "fitment" list. Looks like 2018 - 2023 Softails.
Softail Heritage Classic 114 FLHCS 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023

Since I have an older TwinkieCam, I was just wondering if the skidplate has to be removed to change the oil ?

thanks,

T.

Ah, I'd missed that fitment list.
And their installation video answered my questions about how it fit, contact points, etc.

Ordered!
Thank you!

PS, I can't answer your question directly about needing to remove the pan for an oil change on a Twin Cam, but usually you do have to. Even if you technically don't need to remove it, it's usually very in the way, and makes a mess with oil drippage.

Sorry - I guess I did not word my question correctly. I was asking about removing
the aforementioned skidplate on the 2018+ models, not my older TwinCam which
does not even have a "removeable" oilpan, it has an oil tank located under the seat...

thanks,

T.

Oh. Well, bear in mind I haven't installed it yet, but I can see what I think are the answers.

You should be able to access the engine oil drain plug, as it extends sideways at the rear of the oil pan. But the skid plate looks like it extends below this by about an inch, so it looks like it's going to dump oil all over the rear or the skid plate. You could jigger up something with some aluminum foil to guide the oil, and do the oil change with the bike on a bit of tilt, to drain the oil off to the rear of the skid plate. So doable, but likely messy.

The transmission oil plug is at the front, downwards pointing, and looks to be completely obstructed by the skid plate. So I don't see any way to drain transmission oil without completely removing the skid plate. You could drill a large hole in the skid plate for the transmission drain plug, but I wouldn't do that as you'd lose the protection to that area.
