So, I just bought the colored inner fairing kit for my 24 SG and wondering if anyone has done it yet. How bad is it? Do I pay Harley to do it? I'm very mechanical and not afraid to do it. Any thoughts or tips would be grateful.
1. Do it.
2. Have a H-D Service Manual for your year & model of bike.
3. Take lots of pictures of connections and how things are put together.
4. Label all wire connection on both male & female sides so you can put them back together correctly and be careful of the pin connects taking apart and putting back together.
5. Have fun and take your time.
It is a TON of work considering everything inside that fairing needs to be removed. Lots of cables and wire ties, brackets, etc. I'd expect this to take you 6-8 hours minimum.
Service manual is a must IMHO
You'll need a trim removal tool to remove various fasteners, wire tires, etc.
New wire ties, specifically the ones that are like trim panel fasteners, because they'll get boogered up as you remove them.
Have plenty of room to work, to lay down parts, and to have both inners laid next to each other to swap parts.
Consider changing bars at the same time to avoid another 1-1.5 hours removing the outer fairing shell later on.
I so want to do this, but the idea of knowing everything has to removed scares the crap out of me. I may just get the RF upgraded speakers and call it a day.
I did a bar swap on a 24 SG, the inner fairing easily comes off as a unit.
As far as swapping everything over to the painted inner, not sure, I wouldnt think its that hard.

Harley did Street Glide people no favors with that process to get to the bars. It didnt look hard but you need to remember where a lot of connections went.

HD did a LOT of favors to improve the 24+ SG bar replacement. The 2024+ SG doesn't require removing the fairing to do bars. Remove outer fairing shell so you can disconnect the hand control connections. Remove dash panel to remove bars. Much simpler now.
