Default Skyline OS and Myrouteapp

Hi all,
Can I start that with informing that i have become used to using myrouteapp for planning my journeys and have no desire to change.

What I would like to understand from those of you that do similar is how you might upload to skyline.

The MRA team tell me to use the GPX 1.1 option for file save but heres the thing - Im guessing that I can use ACP and run the map in MRA Navigation on my phone however this will draw data usage (which can be a pain for us guys crossing borders in Europe), as an alternative has anyone tried simply uploading the MRA formed GPX file to skyline in the same way as the mothership suggests to do with rideplanner?

Appreciated with Thanks

You can do either. MyRouteApp works with Apple Car Play but does have some quirks. However, it is improving. There is also an "offline" mode in the MyRouteApp that allows you to download the maps so they are always available this may reduce the data usage.

The MRA export of GPX 1.1 will import to both Skyline and the older Boom systems via a USB. If you export from MRA and import into the HD Ride Planner you can wirelessly push it to your bike's radio. However, importing into HD Ride Planner will alter waypoint names to a generic label.

I manage my old GPX files uploading to HD Rideplanner web site, once saved, they are available on HD app on mobile, and from there I can easily transfer to Skyline

Good evening, I’ve been using MyRoute-app for a few years and love it. On my 2024 RG I build routes in MyRoute-App on my MAC computer then save them as “HD Boom Box 2019 (track)”. Upload the route to a thumb drive then import it onto Skyline OS Embedded Nav using the USB C cord on the bike. Once imported to the bike I just pick the route and start it. Embedded Nav follows the routes flawlessly. I never tried saving a route to the bike in the GPX 1.1 format. Hope this helps.

That's interesting. Previously on my 2018 SG I transferred using HD Boom Pre 2019 - I used this format to save to the TFT on my ‘22 BMW K1600GT - have to say all worked very well.
When I purchased my BMW GSA in ‘23 - (using BMW Navigation unit) I was advised to use format GPX 1.1 - this appears ok but is under test as I am off to Italy Next week via the Alps so 🤞🏻.
It’s quite possible I will buy a new SG this year (considering a CVO presently), this has the new Skyline OS that I have no experience of. Serge over at MRA suggests maintaining the 1.1GPX file format for transfer. Question then, when you transfer BB 2019 track it seems like this not transfer too may waypoints and something I will try.
Appreciate your comments -thanks

royston, never had BB 2019 track not transfer all my waypoints. I’m going to experiment with saving my route in the 1.1 GPX format to see how it responds with the Embedded Nav .

Thanks, Steve

Thank to all for sharing these notes.

Is there a way to transfer routes from my phone to skyline without using a thumb drive? I really want to be able to use my phone to create routes on the fly.

Use the H-D app, create a route, and click "Send to Bike".*

*must have the built-in GPS activated to do this.

Follow-up on saving a route as GPX 1.1 -
The saved (HD Boom Box 2019 (track)) route file is usually about 9-11 Kb. Saving as GPX 1.1 increased the file size to about 30 KB. The GPX 1.1 file route was the same route with all the waypoints as the HD Boom Box 2019 save. I ran 2 different routes and both were the same as far as waypoints and turns. I don’t see any reason at this point to not save as HD Boom Box 2019 (track).

Route on phone transfer to bike.
To my knowledge there isn’t any way to transfer a route from “MyRoute app” on your phone to the Embedded NAV on the bike without downloading it to a thumb drive. I really wish there was. If anyone knows how please let us know.

Steve

I think you are correct- it needed to go from app to bike and then only if you have. (Or are lucky to have ) a solid BT connection between those two.
I have found using MRA in Apple car play quite good, the phone connected to the lead in the cubby establishes a sound connections with only momentary drop outs. Overall though I think my preferred choice will be to plan in MRA save as a pre -2019 route onto a USB stick transfer to bike and use the embedded maps. With the phone connected in the cubby for luck.
For some strange reason (Im not the most technically gifted I admit) ACP still autoconnects for some reason but it’s an easy switch off.
