I have an '01 Road King Classic. First year with EFI for FLHRCI. Some 25K miles on it.

When my bike isn't fully warmed up, it idles really low and stalls. When at a stop light I need to press the throttle a bit to keep the RPMs up.

This happens only when my bike hasn't fully warmed up. Now I live in Southern California, and it's been the summer - doesn't really drop below 60F. After the bike is warmed up, e.g. 30 minutes on the freeway, the idle is healthy and the stalls go away.

Also, when the EFI system does recognize properly that the bike is "cold", it will up the throttle in order to warm up the bike. Like first thing in the morning.

Suggestions?

My 01 Ultra does that once in a while. I pull the a/c and spray carb cleaner or Seafoam into the air bleeds (10 and 2 in upper part of throttle body) and start it up, hold butterflies open, hold rpm around 3000 and spray directly into throttle body. Usually takes care of the idle problem.

Sounds like you need to reset your cold idle. When cold, mine idles at 1,500 rpm. As it warms up, the idle drops down to 1,000 rpm.

How do I set my cold idle on an EFI?

Thanks. I'm new to this. My bike doesn't have a tach - will a handheld tach do? Can someone recommend one that will work with my bike (01 FLHRCI)?

Also, a point of clarification just in case:

Warm idle is fine.

Cold idle seems fine too, at least immediately after starting. However, after a short time (by the time I'm on the road) the idle drops to problematic rpms, causing stalling.

Does this still sound like a straight up cold idle problem?

That's a common issue that year, my old 01RKC did the same thing. Thats one of the reasons the 02 went to a Delphi fuel system. Forget what the fix is though, maybe Dawg will pipe in soon with the answer.

actually first year for EFI on an FLHRCI was 1999. Ive got one and its runs almost flawlessly. Alot of people hate the Magnetti Marelli.....I kinda like it. Now that Ive figured it out.
