Default Was given questionable info

I had called biketronics a day or so ago due to a small issue im having with my 6x9s and as always biketronics stepped up and have no problem standing behind there products. On a side note I was having a conversation with them about the output of a 2180 @ a 2ohm load. Mainly becouse I have the chance to pick one up fairly cheap, even though I've been holding out for a 4180 I was thinking this may be an improvement over my 4.520d for now. So to get to the point... To my suprise robin at biketronics claims that at a 2ohm load the 2180 will double its output? Claiming each of my four speakers will still see 180w. Meaning the amp will put out 360w per channel at 2 ohms for a total of 720w? Now I'm no guru or anything but typically this is not how a 4 ohm to 2 ohm relationship works. I know I have read several times and been apart of many conversations on here where some have stated that bt has claimed around 230w per channel at 2ohms. I'm not sure if I just recieved bad info and maybe should have saved that question for bill or if anyone here has any info that may help.

I was told by Bill on the phone that the 2180 and 4180 produce about 230 watts RMS per channel with a 2 ohm load. This was last year around Christmas.

Theoretical it should double. Problem is that with lower impedance load the efficiency of an amp goes down.

I only read about the 230w as pioneer74 mentions below.

Hmmm, well either way I'm sure a 2180 would be an improvement over the ss 4.520d. Wouldn't you agree?

Absolutely. You're comparing a Mustang to a Yugo.

I don't think my amp is a Yugo, maybe more like a Ford Fungus...

There's nothing wrong with a Yugo. Basic, inexpensive transportation that will get you where you need to go. Just doesn't get you there with speed or style.

I don't know the output of either the 2180 or 4180. All I know is that the 4180 and 6.5 and 7.1 speakers I bought from BT is clear and as loud as I care to crank it. The warranty is a nice extra.
