Default Audio Upgrade

I ride a 2012 Streetglide. When going down the road at 75mph the quality really seems to degrade in the stereo. Am I just being too picky? I know that's a lot of wind to contend with. If I'm not where would my money be best spent? Amplifier or Saddlebag speakers? I'm guessing the amp would produce a clearer sound at higher volume letting me crank it up a little more, but at the same time part of me thinks that it just make it louder and not necessarily clearer. I'd prefer to not deal with the saddle bag speakers unless necessary.

Best money is spent with amp and fairing speakers. Get the best that you can afford.

+1 - lid speakers will create a "surround sound" effect, but your fairing speakers will be the most important ones / loudest ones...

as mentioned above... "many" choices, depending on your budget...

read up on some threads, plenty of similar / same threads going on here.

better sound is accomplished with an aftermarket radio/HU FYI.
so you would need:
- (HU; 100 bucks - ....)
- amp (110 - ..... bucks)
- 6.5 speakers (70 - ..._
- speaker rings (~20 bucks)
- powerline (~25 bucks)

For just a fairing only set up, a Rockford Fosgate PBR300x2 amp and a pair of Infinity 62.11i speakers is hard to beat and not that expensive. You will also need 6.5 adapter rings to go from 5 1/4 to 6 1/2 inch speakers and the Biketronics hand control module to use the stock hand controls (could be wrong about the BT module, maybe it's just for using aftermarket head units)

Bass and mid-bass are the first frequencies to be distorted at higher volumes. If you want to keep the stock, 2-ohm speakers, you can install a capacitor, in series with the positive speaker lead, to cut the low frequencies that distort. At 2 ohms, a 220 microfarad capacitor will cut all frequencies below 360Hz. Similarly, a 200 microfarad capacitor will block frequencies below 397Hz but it is not a common size. Here is a source for a 220:

You should also consider lining parts of your outer and inner fairings, behind and around the speaker with sound deadening material. Hush Mat is excellent because it can be applied with finger pressure and will conform and stick, without the need of a roller.
