I have spent hours reading through countless threads about systems. I guess I am looking for someone who listens to the same type of music I do and can recommend speakers for that genre of music. I mostly listen to "alternative". Bands like Disturbed, Rob Zombie, Limp Bizkit, Godsmack, Marilyn Manson, etc........so what speakers are you running in your fairing. I know, I know.... "sound" is all relative to the person, but I also know that certain types of music sound better on certain speakers than others. Thanks
I am having the same problem, I want to add 2 speakers but am not sure where the best place is, like lower farings, bag speakers, I listen to Nervana, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Foo Fighters, Rush.....
Same music on my ipod... I have the bagger nation (rocksford fosgate) fairing and saddle bad speakers. Sound is great and customer service is great. I had an issue w one speaker and aside from pain in *** removing fairing again they sent a full set for replacement just in case any others had issue. One negative- saddle bag speakers. They sound great, however the design isnt as water proof as I would hope. They come with water shields but speaker and inside of bag still get wet.
My first config was the Hertz Dieci 6.5" speakers with no amp. Sounded great just not as "loud" as I wanted when on the interstate going 80+.
Added a Rockford Fosgate amp and it sounded a bit louder. The Dieci's aren't made for an amp, had I purchased the next model up the Energy's the amp would have benefited me more.
Last summer I upgraded the speakers again to the Polk 6501's. I can literally feel the sound in my chest when on the interstate now. Sound is fantastic to boot.
Another huge plus on the Polks is the fact that they have neodymium magnets. easly 1/4 the weight of the Hertz speakers. I noticed that at Idle my mirrors would share more than normal with the huge Hertz magnets. Had to add extra stress to other components in the fairing also.
However... Late last fall, my right speaker started cutting out and the left would get really quiet. I'm afraid that running that RF 300x4 at 2.4 ohms fried it..
So I'll be ordering the RF 300x2 before spring. More power can't hurt either :-P
I would think lower fairing speakers would be the 2nd best spot after the fairing. Sound coming forward is better than sound from behind. Heck, our ears were designed that way
I have speakers in my bags and have never had a problem with water. If they are put on the correct way and sealed properly you should not have any issues.
A family member works at a Memphis Audio dealer and did my first install. I was running 6.5" MClass components with aluminum tweeters. While they did sound very good, they aren't the most efficient speakers. I put some Focal VB components in last fall and they just sing...
Look in the Audio System forum under the Harley Tech Forum, UltraNutz has the best bang for the buck system, Sound Stream 520 Nano and Polk 6.5 651's. Also I would look at the Biketronics website, Great amps and speakers their! Love my Hat's!
