oh i'm all about saving money but in the long run you'll spend more time and frustration with some of these parts than the amount of money you saved.. My time is too valuable to me so not worth it to me to save $15 and deal with headaches like this.

Just to follow up with the solution I went with and was pretty easy once I decided to do it. I sanded that post down about 3/16". It went quick and easy using a 1/2" drum sander in a cordless drill. Having owned bikes with both types of fairings these would drop right in to a batwing while the sharknose obviously requires some mild mod of that lower post. Thanks for everyone's help.
