Hi guys ive looked around and i get all sorts of answers to this but i thought maybe since some of the posts were pretty old i would get a fresh take. I just bought a 2007 SG and after opening the fairing up i see that the prev owner installed the boom 5 1/4 speakers with a Biketronics BT-444 amp.
I think the bike didnt sound all that good so i bought a pair of Polk DB-651S's and got them installed and ill be honest i didnt hear much difference between the Polks and the Booms. Is the problem the amp is just too small? Do you think i should just upgrade the amp to a higher watt one and keep the booms? or do both the amp and keep the Polks?

Honestly JD those model Polks and the amp is the weak link. You would be much better off with a set of Kicker KSC67 speakers and a Power Acoustik RZ2-1300D. Bout $200 bucks and you are golden!
what makes the kickers better than the Polks? The kickers are rated at 90db and the Polks at 92dbs? Do you use the kickers? Not sure if it matters but the Kickers arent marine grade

They sound better than the DB's. hands down. And yes I've had both speakers installed in my bike. Marine grade doesn't matter. Those kickers take a lickin and keep on kickin. . . No pun intended. Now if you told me you had the POLK MM651's that would be a different story. The Kickers are on the same level as the MM651's. Only they will last longer. Ask me how I know.
And oh by the way. . . Those DB's only handle 60 watts RMS compared to the kickers @ 100 watts RMS.
The Polk DB series is only rated at 60 watts. The Polk MM series are rated at 100 IIRC. I had the MM651's and liked how they sounded, but I had stalk failure on 3 different sets, so I tried Infinity 62.11's. Love them, and now have them in the fairing and the lowers. I recommend them.
