Right now I have the HK stock radio with PBR300x2 and Kappa's in the fairing. I really want to change the HU and am looking at the x798 from Kenwood ($169 @ Car Toys) My question is....is there a similiar HU that's cheaper but as good as the 798 with maybe less features? I am really only interested in standard FM reception, BT, and playability from the USB. I don't really want/need Pandora. HD Radio etc.
Second Question. Will my amp bracket that mounts on top of my stock unit somehow still be useable on the aftermarket HU?
I plan on using the 99-9600 kit and handlebar control unit.
Thanks.
I'm convinced there is no really best choice for HU. Really pretty much personal choice and of course pre amp output. I looked a long time at that Kenwood,I like the door that covers the useless CD player. I bought a Sony, was cheaper and came with a 3 year warranty. You'll need a install kit Sonic electronix has them. Put an Amp in, oh O another choice! Good luck!
I just purchased a kdc 798 unit, would recommend it. I have the a pbr300x2 & kappas. Installed with the metra kit & a bt1005 . Choose this over the others for the display, usb location, HD radio and great reviews.
The head units that I came down to:
sony mex-gs610BT 5v at $129 (good reviews and price is good, sony app is nice apparently for settings)
Pioneer DEH-X8700BH $153 (usb in rear have to route line not a deal breaker, tad different than others)
kdc x798 $165 (good reviews and everything I wanted)
Thanks guys. Think I'll order up the Kenwood along with the metra mounting kit and volume control.
Thinking about ordering a Biketronics door kit for rain?
+1 on the Kenwood X798 that's the one I have in my 2013 Limited but I went with the V-Twin audio VTRCEH kit it includes the radio mounting kit and splash cover along with the Hawg-Wired HUA360 handlebar controller, all in one package.
