Default Biketronics or Harley

I am getting ready to a radio kit in my 04 EGS, and was wondering what is the best way to go. The Biketronics kit looks fine with Sony radio and all the hardware i need and is about half the price of the factory kit. Is the Harley radio and stuff worht the extra money or shoult i go with the Biketronics kit? Or is the even a better route than either of these. Thanks

Do the Biketronics kit as a lot of folks have had trouble with the Harley radio. Besides the Sony receiver gives you more options later if you decide to add an amp or more speakers.

BT/Sony is a great value compared to HD's OEM radio. I had the BT/Sony on my '04 for 4+ years and it worked great. You can save some $$$ by purchasing the install kit and interface module from BT and buying a compatible Sony head unit from a discounter.

Biketronics is a good kit. As Harleypingman said, I bought the retrokit from Biketronics and a Sony radio from Crutchfield. Just make sure that the Sony that you get is compatible. Also put Polk tweeters in the 2 empty instrument holes on my 2005 EGS

I wouldn't go with the Harley, I used Hawg-Wired and a Sony head unit and love it, don't buy your head unit from crutchfield, I went to crutchfield found the unit I wanted and then went on amazon and did a search for best price, bought it 25% less shipping included

Biketronics is a great setup. I bought mine (including radio) thru them...and ordered the Hogtunes 914 speakers and HogPods (tweeters) directly from Pez @ Hogtunes. It's been on the bike now for 1 1/2 yrs now...no problems. If you like MP3s, the Sony has a USB plug upfront. I use an 8 GB thumbdrive, which holds ALL the music I have, as well as shuttleing pictures, files, ect, back and forth to work.

Lately, I've thought about changing to the HK radio, that way I could have the intercom and CB all 'rolled into 1'...one clean installation. After talking with Harleypingman about it; and figuring the $500-$700 increased cost....I've decided against it.

Save the money, and use it on something else!!!

My .02 worth.

I did the biketronics/sony. Harleypingman has the right idea. I bought the install kit from Biketrnics then contacted firecap(site sponsor) and he set me up with a used sony and the ARC speakers. It was very inexpensive. Not trying to put in a cheap plug but I have a used sony(for sale section) and I know the inexpensive ARC speakers w/built in tweeter are only $89.99. That is much cheaper than the kit.

An additonal consideration is whether you want to add CB and/or intercom in the future. If you do, the HK provides the cleanest hard-wired installation and also the most costly.

Had I not wanted the CB, I'd still have my BT/Sony set-up.

Good luck with your research.
